Fortune Cookie Friday: Small Business Advice in an Edible Wrapper – Leaving the Right Impression

And the weekly tradition continues…What incredibly useful business insight and advice for solopreneurs and small business owners might I glean from the fortune cookie that accompanied my moo shoo chicken today?

This week’s featured fortune:

“A part of us remains wherever we have been.”

Uh, Mr. Delivery Guy, can you come back to my house with a different cookie? Please.

Not many of you know this, but just yesterday, my family lost a pet who was with us for the past 7 years. Although this particular fortune could quickly take us in an irrelevant direction, I’ve been able to look beyond my initial interpretation and find a meaning that relates to life as a solo-professional.

“A part of us remains wherever we have been.”

I think we sometimes forget that no matter where we go, we make an impression on others. We exude energy. It can be positive or negative – and we almost always have control over which one we leave behind when we exit the room.

As a solopreneur, your ability (and willingness) to project positivity can make the difference between a thriving business and one that either remains in limbo or withers away. A part of you – a perception of who you and your business are and the value you bring – stays with each and every client and prospect that you meet.

Create an experience that makes people feel good about being around you and doing business with you. As solopreneurs, we need to be conscious of how much that matters every single day.

Can you be 100% positive 100% of the time? Of course not. But when you’re lacking that sense of harmony to the point where it will project on others, take five, regroup, and readjust until you’re sure you’ll be able to put your best foot forward as you walk out the door to your next appointment.

I’m open to interpreting your fortune cookie finds, too. Feel free to share your next slip of confectionary-bound wisdom here or email it to me at dawnmentz@gmail.com and I’ll try to use it in my next Fortune Cookie Friday post!

I feel like this fortune cookie has spoke to me saying that apart of me wI’ll always live in the past, or my past will always live with me. I’m ok with my past even know it’s not the greatest it’s a part of me and it makes me who I am today.

Thanks for your comment, John! I think it’s important for all of us to embrace our past–the good and the not quite so good. You have the right outlook!
